​   Lawler Public Library Board Meeting
Lawler Library
3:00 p.m.   Monday, July 6, 2026
 
President Renea Huinker called the meeting to order at 3:03 p.m.
 
Members present: Renea Huinker, Cathy Humpal, Librarian, Nancy Babcock, Randy Kuennen, and Sandy Busta. Ralph Steinlage was absent.
 
Approval of Agenda: Sandy made a motion, with a second from Nancy, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
 
Approval of Minutes: Nancy made a motion, with a second from Randy, to approve the June minutes. Motion carried.
 
Financial Report: The Board reviewed the financial page for June, and had no concerns. Cathy explained the larger bill for the new computer and why it wasn’t working at first. This computer will be paid for with money from the Memorial Fund. Nancy made a motion, with a second from Randy, to pay the June bills. Motion carried.
 
Unfinished Business
  1. Election Site: In discussion, there were still some questions, so we will wait to hear from Jason Byrne and the State Library.
 
New Business:
  1. Election of Officers: Sandy made a motion, with a second by Nancy, to nominate Renea as President. Nancy made a motion, with a second by Sandy, to nominate Ralph as Vice President. Nancy made a motion, with a second by Randy, to nominate Sandy as Secretary. All nominations were accepted and motions carried.
  2. Review Strategic Plan: The Board reviewed the plan with one word to be changed. Cathy let us know that the Lawler Library has passed the State’s accreditation process.
 
Librarian’s Report
  1. Circulation Report: Circulation numbers were up in most areas, even higher than last June.
  2. Programs: Cathy had coloring sheets available at Lawler’s 250th Birthday celebration for our country, and 32 children were enjoying that activity. Book Club had 3 participants. 16 People enjoyed the Wednesday morning Card Club in June. There were 4 planned story hours, with 6 children and 2 children attending. Two story hours had no participants. There were 150 uses of children’s materials. STEM activities were used by 14 children. Cathy and the other County Librarians will be helping with the STEM trailer at the 4-H Achievement Show and again at the Big 4 Fair.
  3. House File 2490-Meetings and Records: Cathy shared info about this. She will post about our Library Board meetings in the window and on the Lawler website.
 
Next Meeting: Monday, August 3, 2026 @ 3:00 p.m.
 
The meeting adjourned at 3:45 p.m., with Sandy making the motion and a second by Randy. Motion carried.
